Based on a poem by Israeli acclaimed poet Hedva Harechavi.  A little girl holds on a swing, seemingly happy. The mother is nearby and yet – away. The past comes up and separates the two again. Every mother does the best she can. Every little girl wants to be happy.

More than two years on – and still, what is unfolding defies comprehension. And perhaps none of it ever existed?

A video work inspired by the poem “All This” by Gili Danon, filmed on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year.

On the street I left when I left the city, dawn breaks over the haberdashery, the still-closed cafe, the closed construction site. And next to the fast-food stands, the concrete wall, as tall as I am, still carries the mundane prayer I hid in tiny handwriting.

Israel Eliraz saw childhood as the source of true humanity – clean and vulnerable, mysterious, creative and authentic. His poems describing the world of the child are among the most beautiful and clear he wrote. In his poetry, the child is perhaps the teacher who can show us the way home, to the place where things had a special light and dreams were literally in the palms of our hands. And to the time when we  had not forgotten “the wonder of our being in the world”.

The work has three parts: two video episodes, and a poem read by the poet himself.

Based on a poem, this short film unfolds as a parody street interview in which every participant responds with the same lyrics. As situations escalate from the ordinary to the absurd, the film explores liberal self-representation and the paradox of tolerance through repetition, irony, and shifting perspectives.

The film is a one-shot documenting a hike along Israe’s National Trail. The monochromatic image evokes silver prints from the early days of photography. Into the pastoral soundtrack of breathing, footsteps and birdsong, infiltrate ominous echoes of a distant war. The single-voiced recitation becomes a Greek tragedy’s chorus before deteriorating into a disturbing cacophony.

A short poem by Nadavi Noked turned into a musical journey that slowly gets out of control, as the machines start to fight each other. The 50’s commercials in the background remind us that art and technology always had the potential to create chaotic, yet hilarious, results.
