In 1933, at the height of his artistic ascent in Russia and across Europe, choreographer George Balanchine immigrated to the United States. From that moment on, American ballet and modern dance changed forever. Balanchine created a groundbreaking combination of classical ballet with popular musical genres, without sacrificing the perfectionism that demanded complete dedication from dancers.

Is it possible to pierce through Balanchine’s genius and his enigmatic and aloof character? Some of the dancers who got to work with the man try to answer these questions here. The film includes footag  from Balanchine’s archive which is seen here for the first time and provides an intimate glimpse of his work method.
