The Movie Man

A movie theater with five screens in a town of just 300 people. Makes sense, right? Keith Stata thought so, and built the theater right next to his home in a small town in Ontario, Canada, in the middle of a forest full of bears and raccoons. You’d have to be a little crazy about movies to do that — but Stata ran the cinema for over forty years. Nearby theaters closed down, but Keith salvaged their equipment, seats, and old posters to build a “movie palace” that preserves the true experience of going to the movies — popcorn included.

But now, Keith is no longer young, his audience is shrinking, and the future of this special place is uncertain. Lately, he says, only two or three people show up for a screening. Yet when we leave the theater, we carry with us the experience of a charming film, full of love for people and for cinema itself.
