Søren Pihlmann: Make Materials Matter
Sat. 4.4
אסיא, מוזיאון ת"א

To rebuild, you have to reconnect with the material itself. That is the journey undertaken by Søren Pihlmann, an extraordinary Danish architect who reexamines traditional building practices. Instead of demolishing and starting from scratch, he recycles materials from existing structures, industrial waste, and old components, transforming them into functional and aesthetically compelling spaces.

The film takes viewers from industrial sites to international exhibitions, following Pihlmann as he constructs his pavilion for the Venice Biennale and revealing both the aesthetic and ideological challenges of a method that makes use of every raw material. The beauty lies in the modest moments: a door becomes a bench, broken ceramics become a floor. Every material carries a story: the way it was produced, how it was cut, how it was used, and the thought invested in giving it a new and original function. Nothing is left behind as waste.
