This is a film about a conductor that does not focus solely on her music, but portrays a woman under considerable pressure, who acknowledges that her professional success is intertwined with hardship and, at times, even pain.
When Joana Mallwitz was appointed music director of an orchestra in Germany, she became the youngest conductor in Europe. She currently serves as chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. The film follows her over the course of two years, moving between an exploration of the total commitment with which she approaches each musical work, and a portrayal of her life beyond the podium.
At the height of her professional ascent, Mallwitz gave birth to her first child. Yet she does not relinquish her ambitions: between rehearsals and concerts, she speaks candidly about the difficulty of reconciling career and personal life, and about the path she has found to overcome this challenge.
