introduction (in Hebrew): Revital Ben-Asher Peretz, Advisor to the Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo for Culture and Art
About the municipal project “The Treasure” that breaks all the conventions of what we think about garbage, sustainability, and art: how do we turn what most of us see as products past their time into art?
Something happened to fashion designer Yuima Nakazato during his visit to Kenya — something that changed his worldview and the path of his artistic career: He discovered the mountains of discarded clothing from all over the world and the ecological disaster they have unleashed in Africa and globally.
The film follows Nakazato on a tour of Kenya as he prepares for Paris Fashion Week. One of its achievements is how successfully it gets inside the head of a young super designer and conveys the revolution his consciousness undergoes — all without unnecessary dramatization and out of a genuine curiosity. Nakazato attempts, not without hardship, to create a new raw material for the fashion industry from the fabric remnants tossed into giant Third World landfills. Will he offer a practical solution to the problem of global clothing waste? Can he prove that, while trends come and go, fabric can be recycled for the next one?
