Opening film
At age 52, Rogier Kappers is lost: His boat is decaying, his house is sinking, and he quit his job. He thought he would be fulfilled at this stage in life, he says in the narration for this humorous self-portrait. So, he decides to revisit his childhood dream to build a glass organ and become a famous musician.
With the support of his parents and slightly skeptical friends, Kappers builds an organ, learns to play it, and hits the streets. He plays some Bach, Beatles, and ABBA, slowly transforming into a well-known musician. Even then things aren’t rosy: He confronts his idol, the composer Arvo Pärt, takes a disastrous trip to Dubai, and questions whether this is what he wanted to achieve. Was this journey about music? Or recognition? Or love?
After seven years, things seem to have worked out: Kappers managed to become a successful artist and, along the way, he also created a charming, hopeful, and even award-winning film.
