Dutch architect Winy Maas, one of the boldest voices in contemporary architecture, aims to design the city of the future. He envisions urban towers not just as buildings, but as spacious communities wrapped in greenery, offering residents a new way of living.
Maas is a co-founder of the innovative and highly successful architecture firm MVRDV, and the designer of iconic structures such as the Depot Museum in Rotterdam. Director Jan Louter followed him for two years, creating a compelling and engaging film centered on preparations for an ambitious project in Taiwan’s capital: the Taipei Twin Towers.
The documentary offers an honest look behind the scenes of the design process: power struggles with developers, the tension between Western visions and Eastern realities, and conflicts between sustainability goals and financial interests. Maas struggles to maintain his optimism even when the project teeters on the edge, raising a broader question: is it still possible to dream of groundbreaking architecture in a world that measures success solely in profits?
