Take the Money and Run

The Museum of Art in Copenhagen lent half a million Krone to the artist Jens Haaning for a work displaying banknotes on two large canvases. But what ended up on the museum wall were two empty frames — and the title Haaning gave the piece: Take the Money and Run. The banknotes had vanished.

Is it art? Is Haaning a genius or just a thief? At the start of the film, he explains: “I’m very proud of that piece. My script for Take the Money and Run is better than a Hollywood movie, and one day it will actually be made into a film. It’s about an old, sick man with financial troubles who has to steal from the cash register to make art. That’s the story, and add to it a car accident I had and the fact that I ended up in a locked ward.”

And that’s exactly the film you’ll see — complete with a surprising ending.
